A remote date with Guy Kawasaki
A few weeks ago, I attended a meet-up organised by Canva, at muru-D Singapore office. We have about an hour with Guy Kawasaki (via Google Hangout) where he talked about his time with Steve Jobs, and of course evangelising about Canva.
Guy listed a few things that he learnt when he was at Apple, and I now list them here, not verbatim but as well as I can remember them, so that I don’t forget.
Competent or not?
A lot has been written about the co-founder of Apple Computer on his brilliance at developing products, better than I can. Suffice it to say that he did not suffer fools gladly.
Users can’t tell you what the next revolution is.
More often than not, your customers do not know what they want. Instead, have an unwavering vision of your product, work towards that, and observe what your users do with it.
Your products should be functional, but they should also be a pleasure to use and visually pleasing.
If you want to change the world, issue a challenge.
The more people know about it, the more you are bound to make it happen.

Changing your mind is a sign of strength and intelligence.
As an entrepreneur, to never give up means sticking with your vision and product. But also realise when a course correction is needed when you guide everyone following you to your North Star.
The concept of Marketing is simple.
When your product is unique and valuable to others, marketing is simple.
Don’t listen to bozos.
Bozos are people that tell you it cannot be done. There are two types of bozos, harmless and dangerous. Harmless bozos are the ones that did nothing by themselves, the armchair critics. You tend not to take their criticism seriously. Dangerous bozos are the rich and successful ones, and when they say it can’t be done, you believe them.
Just fucking do it.
